Honolulu’s I-9 Sports

I-9 football in paloloGiven that I have school age children, over the last several years, I have had a chance to experience a wide variety of Honolulu’s youth sports programs. We have played Wai-Kahala flag football and baseball, Police Athletic Leagues, KAC Basketball, club volley ball, club swimming, ILH track and summer school wrestling. By far, the best run youth sports organization is I-9 Sports.

My son and I are just completing a spring flag football season and we have had a great time. The rules are very clear, referees are consistent and the administration promotes excellent ethics and sportsmanship. I suspect that I-9 is great because it is a business and must keep the consumer happy to be profitable. The owner Roger Delaquina is responsive and on his game. No matter the youth sport, one of the great things about Honolulu is the diversity of opportunities for kids to get involved in sports. Everything from Lacrosse to Tri-athalons, Honolulu has it. So how does this play into real estate.

A simple, but important connection to the value of real estate in any town, is the quality of life available in the community. For those of you interested in sports, Honolulu offers very fine programs all very close to you home (assuming you live in Honolulu proper). This proximity for individuals and families means you can spend more time having fun and less time driving. Let’s see, more fun and more time to have fun! Might make someone pay more to be in the neighborhood. Think about it.

Hear! Hear! on I9….it does rock!

I love the idea of driving less, however, since I do drive, the drive along Kalanianaole Hwy. is a pretty scenic route of ocean and mountain views.

Additionally, one of the things I like best about driving is ‘captive time’ with my two sons. I get one on one time, 30 minutes each way ( uh, 1 hour a day ) and in our busy family schedule, I love it. Honestly, would I spend or ‘get the chance’ to spend one on one time, 5 times a week with my kids if I did’nt drive? Hard to say……something to think about.
