Macintosh Computers & Honolulu Real Estate

Almost every morning I visit Forbes.com to find a view of the world from a business perspective. Last weeks article concerning growth in Apple computers market share was heartening.
“Look at where beleaguered consumers are putting their dollars, however, and Apple’s performance is even more impressive: The company grabbed 20.1% of the U.S. retail market in October, according to NPD Group. And Apple is on track to sell between 2.4 million and 2.7 million Macs for the quarter ending in December, up 13% from the year-ago period, according to Piper Jaffray (nyse: PJC - news - people ) analyst Gene Munster.”

To tell you the truth, I have used Macs for most of 22 plus years and I love the elegance and stability the operating system exhibits. Don’t get me wrong, Windows is OK, but here is how I would compare Windows and OSX (the Mac operating system). A Lexus and a Chevrolet are both cars and both will get you from point A to point B. One of the automobiles will have better ergonomics; a tighter fit and finishes and, over the long run, is way more reliable. In the car world I will let you guess which is better, Lexus or Chevrolet.
For those of you Windows people who are thinking how can Keahi know about Windows if he has used a Mac for so long. Here is a secret, for a short period, the Honolulu Board of Realtors stopped supporting Apple computers and I was forced to the “dark side” for about a year and a half. I found Windows to be acceptable, however, it was clunky, and unpredictable and god help you if you had to make a change or add a new program. It seemed every change or new program rippled throughout the machine creating incompatibilities with other programs.
Back to the Mac world (not the magazine MacWorld), Apple does a great job allowing old systems to work with the new. A terrific example is a server I recently retired, it was Mac 7200 (built in 1992) running the last version of OS9 (9.2) and all of my other machines were running OSX. Think about this, my server lasted 15 years! How possible would this have been in the Windows environment?
So how does this apply to Honolulu real estate? I believe it is a metaphor for the prosperity that excellence attracts. Even at a time when many realtors are having terrible years, there are many of us that are having better than average performance in 2008. We have shown longevity, a commitment to our clients’ needs and a work ethic that keeps us strong. Think about it!
