Emerson’s Quote Of The Day

“Whoso would be a man, must be a nonconformist.  He who would gather immortal palms must not be hindered by the name of goodness, but must explore if it be goodness.  Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of our own mind.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Good News For Honolulu Time Shares

Pacific Business News reports that the bright spot in Hawaii tourism is time shares.

“Amid all the gloom evident in Hawaii’s tourism industry, one business is still growing: time shares.

While the number of visitors who chose to stay at a hotel or a condominium in 2008 is down almost 10 percent from last year, the number of visitors who chose a time share ticked upward.”

Does Honolulu Need Government Support For Housing?

If you own a home, you are well aware of tax benefits (incentives) the government gives you. Forbes has an interesting article concerning government intervention to encourage citizens to buy and own a house or condo.

“And since it’s a tangible investment that its owners can actually live in, its virtues become even more attractive regardless of any preferential treatment afforded it by the federal government.”

Emerson’s Quote Of The Day

“Society is a joint-stock company, in which the members agree, for the better securing of his bread to each shareholder, to surrender the liberty and culture of the eater.  The virtue in most request is conformity.  Self reliance is its aversion.  It loves not realities and creators, but names and customs.”

Another Layer Being Added To Honolulu’s Pearl

Since Waikiki is one of the main engines that powers Honolulu’s economy and real estate market.  It is great to hear from Pacific Business News that the owners of the Waikiki Shopping Plaza are planning redevelopment.

“Waikiki Shopping Plaza LLC proposes to tear down a four-story building, a two-story building and two one-story buildings at the corner, which is across the street from the newly renovated Royal Hawaiian Center, and replace it with one 60-foot-high three-story building, according to a final environmental assessment filed with the state.”

Journal Is Right About Honolulu Real Estate

Today’s Wall Street Journal has an optimistic article written by Allan Murray.  In writing about the national economy, Mr. Murray touches on a few points that apply to Honolulu real estate.

“But here’s the thing: Fixed-rate mortgages are already at historic lows, and the government is going to use every tool in its bag to get them lower over the course of the year. So if you find a piece of property you want, if the seller is willing to recognize how far the market has truly fallen, and if you have good credit — three big ifs — you can benefit from a once-in-a-lifetime double bonus of low prices and low interest rates.”

Honolulu Hide Your Wallet!

The Honolulu Advertiser is reporting that the revenue collections to build the recently approve rail are falling short.

“The decline in collections comes less than two years into a 15-year tax hike adopted to fund construction of the elevated train from East Kapolei to Ala Moana. The city’s rail plan anticipated transit tax revenue growing each year, Read the rest of this entry »
