Honolulu Hopes Hainan Hits Home Run!
August 4th, 2009 categories: Rants & Riffs, The Market
Its been a while since I posted on tourists from China coming to Hawaii. Two things recently occurred to inspire me to write this post. First, the Honolulu Star Bulletin and other local papers reported about Hainan Airlines application to offer service to Hawaii.
“Hainan Airlines is seeking to begin weekly service to Hawaii this fall and eventually increase the frequency to three times a week.
The airline, which has been operating nonstop between Beijing and Seattle four times a week since last June, has filed applications with the U.S. and Hawaii Departments of Transportation to offer weekly, nonstop service on a three-class Airbus A340-600 to Hawaii, and Hawaii officials think this could be a bridge over troubled water for the state’s tourism industry.”

Secondly, I received an email with photos of beaches in China, which I have posted below. Note how insanely crowded their beaches are! Now consider how attractive Waikiki will be to China’s burgeoning middle class. Based on the photos, I think we (Hawaii) offer a very enticing destination for the Chinese traveler.
As we add tourists, demand for real estate rises from within and without, thus confirming the wisdom in my bullishness. Think about it.
